portugalpasso.com is a step-by-step guide for people moving to Portugal: NIF, visa, tax, housing and healthcare in the order they come up, with what you need, what it costs and where it tends to go wrong. It also has a European Portuguese course built around everyday situations — the tax office, the doctor, the hardware store, the bank. It is available in English, Dutch and German.

How we work together: readers who arrive through Portugal Passo and need the tax and accounting side sorted — IFICI, tax residency, self-employment or setting up a company — are referred to HVR.

How we choose partners

HVR is an accounting and management consulting firm. Some questions reach us every month that are not ours to answer — which visa to apply for, where to live, how to learn Portuguese, which lawyer to look for. Rather than answering vaguely, we point people to those who do that work properly.
