The day-to-day work
An accountant at HVR looks after their own portfolio of companies: month-end close, VAT returns, withholdings, payroll, Modelo 22 and IES. Routine postings and reconciliations run on TOConline and automation, so time goes to what clients value: explaining the numbers, anticipating deadlines and advising on decisions. Specialisation is by sector: startups, real estate, expats and cross-border operations.
How to become a Certified Accountant
In Portugal the profession is regulated by the Ordem dos Contabilistas Certificados, whose Statute was approved by Law 139/2015 of 7 September. Registration as a Certified Accountant requires a suitable academic qualification, a professional traineeship and passing the Ordem's exam, under the Statute and the OCC's regulations. HVR hosts trainees and supports exam preparation, with a Certified Accountant as supervisor.
